South Carolina Board of Paralegal Certification

On November 12, 2015, the Supreme Court of South Carolina adopted Rule 429, SCACR, and Appendix G to Part IV, SCACR, a program for the voluntary certification of paralegals in South Carolina. The purpose of the paralegal certification program is to assist in the delivery of legal services to the public by identifying individuals who are qualified by education, training, and experience and who have demonstrated knowledge, skill, and proficiency to perform substantive legal work under the direction and supervision of a lawyer licensed in South Carolina.

For qualifications in pursuing certification, fees, and recertification, see Advance Sheet No. 44 (November 12, 2015). Also see Advance Sheet No. 16 dated April 19, 2017, amending section IX(A)(2) of Appendix H to include the Professional Paralegal designation offered by the National Association for Legal Professionals (NALS) and denying the request to permit a person to be certified by experience.
